Trump, Kushner and the couple’s three children will move to Kalorama after her father takes office. The couple’s new six-bedroom home is on Tracy Place NW, just blocks from the house the Obamas will be renting during their bonus two-year stint in the District. The Trump-Kushner house sold on Dec. 22 for $5.5 million, but it is unclear whether the couple bought the home themselves or whether they’ll be renting from its new owner.
The house is within close walking distance of TheShul at Chabad-Lubavitch Center. Although there is no official word on which particular synagogue the family attends as Modern Orthodox Jews the Trump-Kushner clan observe the Sabbath, a day of rest from Friday evening at sunset through Saturday evening during which the family refrain from work, using electronics and driving, among other restrictions. So having a synagogue within close walking distance to their home is an obvious must.
Just last week, rumor had it that the young family of five would be renting a five-bedroom townhouse in Georgetown that was a short walk away from Kesher Israel, the Orthodox synagogue at the corner of 28th and N streets where insiders claim Kushner and Trump, who converted to Judaism before marrying her husband in 2009, will be attending.
Since then the camera-ready couple, though both avowedly not politicos, have found themselves thrust into the Beltway spotlight, the subject of much cocktail party chatter since they began making scouting trips to the area in early December. Several houses were believed to be on their radar including Jackie Kennedy’s former home on N Street in Georgetown and a property in tony Phillips Park, the Foxhall enclave of McMansions.
Washington Fine Properties represented both sides in the transaction, according to Washingtonian magazine. WFP has been the go-to real estate company for Trumpers. Less than a month ago, Bill Moody, executive vie president of WFP, brokered the sale of philanthropist Adrienne Arsht’s former home to incoming commerce secretary Wilbur Ross. Washington Fine Properties was also involved in the sale of incoming treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin’s Washington home. No word on whether WFP is helping Kellyanne Conway, who will be counselor to the president come Jan. 20, find her D.C. digs, but we wouldn’t be surprised.
