Anambra guber: No vacancy in govt house – Group tells politicians
Willie Maduabuchi Obiano
A group, Obiano Youth Alliance, has sounded what looks like warning to all political gladiators in Anambra State, stressing that there would be no vacancy in Government House, Awka, come 2018.
The coordinator of the group, Comrade Nwaeze Chukwuemerie, who made the declaration at a rally tagged, “We Want Him Back In 2017,” held weekend, in Awka, said, this followed the intimidating achievements of Governor Obiano barely three years in office.
Comrade Chukwuemerie who pledged the group’s unalloyed support for the governor’s second term bid declared the “no vacancy” claim while highlighting activities line up for the gubernatorial campaign and pledged their commitment to replicate the rally in the remaining 20 LGAs.
The four –year tenure of the incumbent, Dr. Willie Obiano will end in 2017 after which he will be eligible to contest for a second term. Victory for him in 2018 will have him occupy the hot seat till 2022.
The group reeled out his achievements to include but not limited to prompt payment of workers’ salary in the midst of economic retrogression, purchase of vehicles known as Civil Servant Subsidy Transit Scheme , as well as the ‘Willie is Working’ Public Transit that conveys passengers from the Awka terminal to the 21 LGAs at subsidised 25 per cent of the commercial transport fares.
According to the coordinator, other giant strides celebrated are ; security feats which other state governors are understudying and the attraction of whooping $2.5billion investments into the state.
According to him, the administration of Gov. Willie Obiano has made tremendous marks in the agricultural sector as the state has attracted over seven hundred million dollars ($700m) investment into the sector especially for the production, processing and storage of rice, tomatoes, cassava, livestock, amongst others.

He said, Gov. Willie Obiano is a firm and unrepentant believer in order and process, as farmers in the state have been organised into about 1,500 cooperatives bodies , equipped with tractors and other farm machineries.
In addition, He said, several tons of high-yielding rice seedlings and maize/ fertilisers have been widely distributed, a trend ,that has projected Anambra state to producing at least 300,000 metric tons of rice, 150,000 metric tons of cassava and 240,000 metric tons of tomatoes just over a period of 24 months.
These achievements, he noted, speaks volumes that Ndi-Anambra needs Obiano even till 2022. He noted that under Dr. Obiano’s watch, the state has intensified efforts towards building a stronger, vibrant and grassroots development plan that focuses on actualising fairness, respect, decency and openness to indigenes.
His words, “we are gathered here today to expound on the achievements of our dear governor whom God has used immensely to lift this state from its initial state backwardness and the shackles of poverty and crime to an enviable state.
He said, it’s a fact that our state, a former theatre of crime and criminality in the South East has been redeemed by Willie Obiano who launched an all-out war against kidnappers, armed robbers, drug-dealers and child-traffickers. He has solved the 46-year old puzzle of crime in Anambra, making it the safest in Nigeria.
“It is for the reason of these achievements and the prospects which the future holds for us under the visionary leadership of Dr. Willie Obiano that we call on everyone to stand in solidarity with us , as we support his bid for a second term in office in 2017, he concluded.”
