After losing the Rivers State governorship election and his election petition to upturn the election of Governor Nyesom Wike, the federal government on Thursday threw a lifeline to Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside by appointing him the Director General (DG), of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Shortly after his failed attempt at the Supreme Court to upturn Wike’s election, Dakuku, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), had met with the leadership of the party and cried out to them to compensate him and other members of the APC in River State for their “sacrifices”.
He told the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, that members of the party in the state were branded “traitors” and constantly harassed for joining the APC.
He therefore called for the party’s intervention and patronage as compensation for the “sacrifices” they had made for this government.
In a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relation of the Ministry of Transportation, Mrs. Yetunde Sonaike, the federal government said the appointment takes immediate effect.
Dakuku was the governorship candidate of the APC in the April 11, 2015 election. In 2011, he was elected member, House of Representatives, where he served as Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum Resources – Downstream.
Dakuku holds a doctorate degree in Management Science (Organisational Behaviour) from the University of Port Harcourt, MBA in Business Administration and a Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLs) in Haematology from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Rivers State.
