20-month-old Baby Goes Missing During Naming Ceremony -Sheriff Balogun

A 20-month-old toddler was on Sunday declared missing at Akorode Estate, Mile 2 in Abeokuta North Local Government of Ogun State during a naming ceremony.
The baby boy went missing during the naming ceremony held by Mr. Olusola Osunleke for his daughter.
While narrating how the incident happened, mother of Opeyemi, the missing child, Mrs. Elizabeth Ogundele. said that she was dressing up for the ceremony while her son was playing with other children in the lobby of the house.
She said she discovered that her son was no longer with the other children when she came out for the event, saying people present then helped to search for the 20-month-old boy but to no avail.
According to her, “In the process of the search, I saw two young men in a building adjacent to the residence of the celebrants and asked them if they saw my son, which they denied.”
She said: “While walking away, I looked back and saw the two young men making certain signal to each other. This prompted some women to rush to the building but in order to scare away the women, the two men striped and the women ran away.”
She added that the two occupants subsequently fled, but one of them was later apprehended and kept in police custody.
The owner of the building was identified as Chief Olasile Ifayemi who had just relocated to the community two months ago.
While breaking into the house, it was discovered that the house was a ritualists’ den. Various fetish items including mutilated human parts were found in the building.
Some of the residents in the community who thronged the scene were seen throwing out all the items and piling them in the front of the house.
Angry youths from the community were prevented from setting the house ablaze by a team of policemen who were on guard.
The state Police Commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali, confirmed the incident and assured the people that a proper investigation into the missing child would be carried out.
“A two-year-old boy was kidnapped monday but the site that was discovered has no relationship with the boy and other human parts that were found at the site.
“Already, we have commenced investigation on the matter and we will let you know what really happened when we finish our investigation,” Ali said.
