Nigerians have been urged not to
panic over the face-off between President Goodluck Jonathan and the
former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The Yoruba Obas Conflict Resolution Committee noted that the dour relationship between the two would fizzle out with time.
The monarchs after their meeting at the palace of their chairman, His Royal Majesty, Oba Frederick Obateru Akinruntan, Alakia, Ibadan, disclosed that two of them are friends and they know how to settle their differences.
“You know we don’t dabble into politics. They have been friends for ages. They would settle themselves. If you see them fighting on pages of newspapers, it doesn’t mean they are enemies. If any of them has any event now, don’t be surprised to see them turning up,” he said.
He said the heartbeat of the committee was to witness a very peaceful election.
He added that the efforts of the committee had paid off because it is difficult to see either Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola or the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade attack each other like before.
Oba Akinruntan explained further that the committee always meet with them individually to discuss.
In attendance at the meeting were Oba Daodu Joel Sunday, Oluyari of Iyari, Ondo State, Oba Matthew Olasheinde, the Jowe of Irukorogha, Ondo State.
Oba Ajayi Adeniyi, Gbaluwe of Igbotan Kingdom, Oba Saliu Oyemonla Azeez, Sabigana of Iganna, Oyo State, Oba Frederick Akinruntan, Okoro Agija 1, Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, and Oba Sikirulahi Adelani, Ogun State.
