THE final shortlist of candidates for the 2014 GLO-CAF African
Footballer of the Year award has been released with Vincent Enyeama and
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang contesting the title with current holder Yaya
Toure.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday reduced the list to three from the five it released on
November 30. The two other players that missed the cut are Asamoah Gyan of Al-Ain of UAE and Ghana and CSKA Moscow and Nigeria's Ahmed Musa.
Ivory Coast's Yaya Toure plays for English Premiership side Manchester City, while Nigeria's captain Vincent Enyeama plays club football for Lille FC of France. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is Gabonese and plays for German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
The 2014 GLO-CAF African Player of the Year will be announced at an awards night in Lagos on January 8, 2015.
The names of contestants for the African Footballer of the Year award (Based in Africa) was also reduced to three.The race is now down to Algeria and ES Setif FC's duo of Akram Djahnit and El Hedi Belamieri and Firmin Mubel Ndombe of Congo and AS Vita.
The Nigerian duo of Asisat Oshoala and Desire Oparanozie remain in contention for the African Footballer of the Year award in the female category. The Super Falcons players have Annette Ngo Ndom of Cameroon to contend with.
Oshoala, winner of the Most Valuable Player and the Golden Boot awards at the the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's
World Cup in Canada and the Most Valuable Player award at the last African Women's Championship in Namibia, also remains in contention for the Youth Player of the Year award with companion Uchechi Sunday. Fabrice Ondoa of Cameroon is the other candidate in this category.
The trio of Clinton Nj’jie and Vincent Abubakar from Cameroon and Yacine Brahimi from Algeria made the top
three of the Most Promising Talent Award while Algeria, Libya and Nigeria were listed for National Team of the Year Award.
